Manila   1982 - 1986

In 1982 Pacita left Boston, and after a twelve-year absence, moved back to Manila to live in the Philippines for the next four years. She was excited to return home and have a reunion with her family and friends.

Initially, Pacita painted socio-political portraits of people and city scenes around Manila. However, her focus sharpened in August 1983 when Ninoy Aquino was gunned down by Marcos soldiers on the airport tarmac.

Pacita was enraged, as Aquino had been a friend of her father's, and Pacita had visited the Aquino family when they both lived in Boston in the early 1980's. Soon after his assassination Pacita went to her studio and painted the "The Death of Ninoy".
