Though she was confined to a wheelchair, Pacita returned to the Philippines to open her last exhibition, a large solo exhibition curated by Rubén Defeo, at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
The exhibition, "Circles in My Mind", consisted of 70 of her "Obsession" paintings and 20 prints and paper pulp pieces. "Pacita Abad: Obsession", a 160-page book by Ian Findlay-Brown and Rubén Defeo was published.
Though very seriously disabled, Pacita participated with colleagues from STPI in paper workshops, which she and her painter nephew, Pio Abad, arranged at the University of the Philippines College of Art and at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
She was then honored in a documentary colloquium at the Ateneo University Library of Women's Writings, where she was cited as one of the outstanding Filipino Women in the field of Visual Arts.Read More
