Layers of Earth is based on a sketch Pacita made while her plane circled the Macchu Picchu Mountain in Peru. Although the view from the plane only showed shades of brown, beige and ochre, Pacita's finished trapunto version is an explosion of reds typical of her love for vibrant colors.
