The paintings and mixed media works of Filipino artist Pacita Abad are characterised by their vibrancy and exhilarating textures. Her journeys and experiences around the world, as well as her time living in Asia, Africa and the Carribean, greatly impacted her explorations, inspiring ideas, techniques and materials used in her paintings. This self-portrait reveals the stylistic influence of Social Realist painting, which she often used in early figurative work of refugees, rural villagers and urban street scenes.
