Launch of Pacita's Restored Painted Bridge

12 July 2019

Originally painted in 2004 by Pacita Abad, the Alkaff Bridge's (Pacita's painted bridge) featuring the artwork of Filipina artist Pacita Abad has become a landmark in Singapore’s tourism and arts scene.  It is a vibrant symbol of the close cooperation and friendship between Singapore and the Philippines. As Pacita said, "The painted bridge is my gift to the people of Singapore."

The restoration of Alkaff Bridge was made possible by the efforts of Prof. Tommy Koh, the generous contributions of Singapore and Philippine donors, and the support of Pacita Abad Art Estate, the Land Transport Authority (LTA), National Arts Council (NAC), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Cultural Matching Fund (CMF) and the Philippine Embassy in Singapore. It was part of a series of commemorative events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and the Philippines.

Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan and Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. jointly officiated at the launch of the newly repainted Alkaff Bridge at Robertson Quay on 12 July 2019.
